Public Transport Patronage

Just a quick update on public transport patronage in Greater Christchurch.

Monthly patronage for the last 8 years looks like this.

It dropped off massively through covid. It has been clawing it’s way back most of this year and is currently sitting about 85% of pre-covid levels, and it’s now probably the driver shortages holding it back moreso than covid.

This is the same data shown by month.

You can see that this last 2022 November was higher than November in 2021 and 2020, but not quite back to November 2019 levels.

I’ve been watching the figures for the last few months and was going to make a big announcement when we got back to pre-covid levels. Unfortunately it keeps on not happening and I got sick of waiting. Maybe next year I might be able to make that annonucement.
